The Art of Smoothie Bowls
I have found that making smoothie bowls is an art form. There are a few elements to a successful smoothie bowl: taste, texture, & appearance. Obviously appearance doesn't really matter but I think it's fun to make it look nice. For me taste is the first thing. So I have developed a few recipe that are super delicious that anyone can make! All you need is some frozen fruit, liquid of choice, and a blender or food processor. Texture on the other hand comes from the toppings you chose. Maybe you like some crunchy oil-free granola or chia seeds, fresh fruit or all of it like me! Personally I like a ton of toppings. That's the best part! And appearance. It depends on two factors: how much time you have & if you're posting on Instagram. I love to make mine look pretty most of the time because it makes me enjoy eating it more but you certainly don't have to. So below are a few of my favorite smoothie bowl recipes + topping suggestions. I also share some of my tips and tricks on how to make them almost too good to eat!
Berry Bliss
Ingridients:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 - 1 cup frozen berries of choice (I like a mix)
- 1/2 - 1 cup soy milk (or liquid of choice)
Directions:
- In a high speed blender, add the frozen bananas and berries and blend until chunky
- Add in the soy milk and blend until completley smooth
- Pour into a bowl and top with your choice of toppings. I listed my favorite combo in the notes sections down below
NOTES: This bowl is packed with antioxidants from the berries and super versatile. Personally I like add in lots of strawberries to this one but raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries are delicious too! You can try all sorts of combinations to find what you like best! I like granola, chia pudding, cacao nibs, fresh banana & almond butter on this one but add whatever toppings you like best!
Classic Banana Whip
Ingredients:
- 3-5 frozen bananas
- 1/2 - 1 cup coconut almond milk (or liquid of choice)
Directions:
- In high speeds blender or food processor, add in the banana. Blend until blended into small chunks
- Add in the almond milk little by little until you get a thick, smooth consistency
- Pour into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings! My favorite combo is in the notes section down below!
NOTES: This smoothie bowl is a classic and I make it all the time. It is such a refreshing meal especially in the summer time! It is so easy and the toppings are endless! I like to add coconut, cacao nibs, chia seeds, and fresh fruit like mango & kiwi.
Pina Colada
Ingredients:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
- 1/2 cup frozen mango
- 1/2 - 1 cup coconut water (or liquid of choice)
Directions:
- In a high speeds blender or food processor, add in the frozen fruit and coconut water
- Blend until completely smooth. You may have to scrape down your machine a few times to get everything blended properly
- Pour into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings. My combination of choice is written down below in the notes section.
NOTES: This smoothie bowl is so sweet and refreshing! I love making this right after a workout because it helps to cleanse and rebuilt my body. To make all my smoothie bowls look nice, I like to do a little swirling on the top with spoon. In the picture above I did a center swirl but get fun with it. I love topping it with fresh banana, my oil-free granola, chia seeds, and buckinis.
Tropical Green
Ingredients:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 cups frozen pineapple
- 1/2 cup frozen mango
- 1/2 - 1 cup almond milk (or liquid of choice)
- 2 -3 cups washed baby spinach or kale (if using kale be sure it's destemmed)
Directions:
- In a high speed blender of food processor, add in a 1/2 cup of almond milk & the greens. Blend until you get a smooth green liquid. This really helps the end result be free of any chunky greens
- Add in the frozen fruit and blend until completely smooth. You may need to add more liquid to help with the blending process. This will take 2-5 minutes depending on your blender
- Pour into a bowl and top with your topping of choice. I listed mine in the notes down below
NOTES: This is probably my favorite recipe out of the four. It tastes amazing but you also get some greens in! Because of the tropical fruit you don't really taste the greens either! I love topping this one with coconut, fresh banana, & chia seeds. But again, you can always go crazy and add all sorts of things like granola, hemp seeds, buckinis, etc
