Flying Vegan

There are lot of obstacles to overcome when you choose to eliminate things from your diet (gluten, meat, oil, dairy, etc), so of course it's going to be harder to travel. Being healthy or more conscious about what you eat shouldn't limit you! Healthier options are becoming more available everywhere so we really don't need to worry about it for much longer. But there are some tips I would like to share with you to aid you in your adventures.

I am personally on this journey to zero waste. It's a long journey and I am taking it step by step. And flying without using any plastic or one use items is a big leap in the process. Airlines are tough and so is security. I highly recommend doing some research on your airline, airport, and security rules in your area. Of course my #1 tip is to bring a reusable water bottle. That's a given for me, especially since I have mine with me 24/7 at home.

Flying wreaks havoc on your body and staying hydrated is really important. Having my own personal water bottle is helpful, especially if it has an easy to drink top. I like my 32 oz Hydroflask with a straw lid. It's super easy to drink out of and refill at water fountains. Just remember to bring it empty. You will not be able to bring it full through security.

Once you get your bottle through security you can fill it at the water fountains or get a Starbucks drink inside. My order at Starbucks is a venti unsweetened green or white tea, shaken well. I absolutely love getting that for on flights and you can ask them to put it inside your empty water bottle. Some will do it but others may not allow it. But either way, I suggest giving it a try.

The thing with getting food at the airport is that you cannot bring your own wooden utensils or metal utensils through security. It really stinks for those of us who try to not use one-use items. However, most 'fast food' and airport restaurants don't require utensils. So if you need some food while traveling, I suggest going for a bagel, burrito, or random snacks.

I also recommend packing snackies. That way you know exactly what your eating, how much, you'll save money, and time at the airport. I have never had a problem getting through security with food but again, do some research. I like to pack cut up veggies (carrots, peppers, sugar snap peas, etc) and a whole fruit (banana, apple, citrus, etc). If I have the stuff to make a trail mix (pretzels, nuts, seeds, chocolate chips) I will make that too. If I have some Larabars, Square Organic bars, or anything along those lines I will throw them in my carry-on as well. Packing food also helps clean out your fridge/pantry before you leave ;)

So now I have shared my tips for how to use less waste, save money, and be as healthy as you can while flying. Here's my last tip:

Have good tunes.

I have lots of good playlists on my Spotify that would be good for traveling. But of course I have one just for this occasion. 'Adventure Awaits' has a plethora of upbeat songs to get you pumped for the adventure that you are on. If you have premium then you can download it and listen to it on the plane...you're welcome ;)

Have a good trip!

Veganism doesn't have to be hard, unappetizing, or unhealthy. I here to show people how to make delicious healthy recipes free of many allergens like gluten but with an extra healthy twist. Many of the recipes are completley grain-free, refined sugar-free, oil-free, and made with ingredients that are of course plant based and as close to the whole plant form as possible. There less processed it is, the better. I also write blog posts on living a vegan lifestyle. Veganism isn't just about not eat animals and their byproducts, but also not buying leather or buying cosmetic products from companies who test on animals. I am here to help people on their journey to a life free of cruelty but full of positivity and happiness. I share my vegan story, cruelty free skin care routine, makeup routines, eco-friendly household products, ethical fashion, yoga and meditation, zero waste essentials, how to throw a vegan party, pantry essentials, and so many more!
