My First Vegan Thanksgiving
I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving with their friends and family. I sure did. On Wednesday I cooked for at 5 hours. At first I was not sure what I wanted to have. I technically did not HAVE to make a typical "thanksgiving meal" but I did anyways. I did not want to stick out even more than I already do as a vegan. I went to my grandparents house which is where the feast has always taken place since before I was born. My family has always been about tradition, tradition, tradition. And I am breaking it. Theres always a turkey, green bean casserole, steamed broccoli, fresh bread, dairy-heavy mashed potatoes, rich gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. The only things I could eat was the bread, broccoli and the cranberry sauce and I'm not about to stoop to that level. So I took the liberty in making my own feast. It took some planning but I did it. I made stuffing, mashed potatoes, baked crispy tofu, roasted butternut squash and brussel sprouts, and gravy. I made plenty to share with the whole family. My plate looked like everyone else's. And I didn't stick out too much. It was so delicious and I'm glad I made my meal as traditional as possible. So thats how I survived my first vegan Thanksgiving. Hope your first thanksgiving was or will be as successful as mine.
